How to Practice Transcendental Meditation - The Basic Technique

  • Sit quietly in a comfortable position. There should be as few distractions as possible.
  • Close your eyes and allow your body and mind to relax.
  • Breathe deeply and let yourself feel your mind calming as your body relaxes.
  • Repeat your mantra out loud speaking very softly. Continue repeating your mantra in a softer and softer voice over the course of approximately 1 minute.
  • Mentally continue repeating your mantra. This is done without saying the mantra out loud or moving your lips or tongue.
  • Let yourself focus on the universe and the feeling of oneness with the universe as you continue mentally repeating your mantra until a total of 20 minutes has passed.

Transcendental Meditation Tips

  • As you allow your mind to transcend the body, simply feel your mantra.
  • Your mantra should come easily, without effort.
  • Do not force your mind to concentrate on your mantra. Allow it to flow effortlessly from your mind.
  • If you should forget your mantra, do not panic. Simply allow it to come back to you.
  • If a different thought comes to you, do not focus on it. Allow yourself to come back effortlessly to your mantra.

Meditate Twice Each Day

Transcendental Meditation is practiced twice a day once in the morning before breakfast and once in the afternoon before dinner. The morning meditation begins each day with a sense of physical energy and mental alertness. Meditating before dinner helps your mind and body to rid itself of the stress that has accumulated throughout the day. It also creates a relaxed feeling leading to an enjoyable evening and a restful night’s sleep. Each meditation session should last between 15 to 20 minutes.

The Benefit of Achieving a State of Pure Consciousness

During Transcendental Meditation the mind reaches a state of pure consciousness. Research has shown that at the same time the mind reaches this state, the body attains a state of extreme relaxation and rest. It is during this state of pure consciousness that the mind has unlimited intelligence and creativity. Research studies have shown that experiencing this state of pure consciousness twice a day causes the mind to be more intelligent, creative and alert all through the day.
