Cosmic Meditation
From LoveToKnow Stress
If you are feeling so stressed that you are disconnected from everything around you, cosmic meditation can be a way to bring your mind, body, and spirit back into harmony with the world and the universe.
Defining Cosmic
The universe, or cosmos, is filled with energies from the planets, stars, and all life within it. In the course of daily life and all its stressors, many people may feel disconnected from everything around them, leading to feelings of isolation that can lead to even more stress. Cosmic meditation is a type of meditation that can help individuals feel more connected to the universe and to see their place in it as part of the whole, rather than as an isolated spot. By tapping in to the energies of the cosmos, you can also revitalize your mind, body, spirit, and psyche to better deal with the individual stress triggers in your life.
Cosmic Meditation Techniques
Also known as grounding meditation, cosmic energy meditation, and cosmic thought meditation, this meditation can be practiced in a number of ways. While many meditation techniques require a private, quiet place, individuals experienced in cosmic practices can often meditate even in hectic, bustling areas by recognizing that every surrounding action and individual is part of the cosmic whole.
Techniques for cosmic style meditation include:
- Deep breathing: Taking slow, deep, measured breaths is a quick stress reliever that will help quiet your mind in order to connect with the energies around you more easily.
- Closed eyes: Many individuals find it easier to focus on cosmic harmony without the distractions of their immediate surroundings.
- Yoga: Different yoga poses focus on a connection to nature and grounding the body in harmony with itself and with the earth, two principles that are vital to cosmic relaxation. While practicing yoga is not necessary for cosmic energy meditation, it can help an individual feel more deeply rooted in the meditation.
- Imagery: Guided imagery is popular in cosmic meditation and it can take many forms, such as:
- Imagining oneself as a tree or plant that draws energy from the earth and releases it into the sky, harmonizing the connections between every living thing.
- Focusing inward to see the āIā of the psyche with images from different life stages. Memory is an important part of this meditation technique.
- Journeying through the cosmos with imagery including planets, stars, and galaxies. This journey often starts at the current location and expands to show the embrace of the cosmos.
Group Meditation
To highlight the connectedness of all things and harness the relaxing energies of the cosmos, some people prefer cosmic group meditation. Individuals in the group usually touch in some way, either through holding hands or sitting back-to-back to share energies, or they may create a group mantra to be repeated simultaneously or with each member of the group providing one part of a complete phrase. Sharing this type of meditation in a coordinated group can increase the focus on how all life is connected, easing stress more effectively than solo meditation.
Meditation Tools
Different tools can be used to focus during cosmic energy meditation.
- Music: Either vocal or instrumental music can be used to help focus this meditation and remove the isolation each individual feels. While most practitioners prefer relaxing, instrumental music, others may relax better with stronger selections.
- Mantras: A meditative mantra can help focus the mind on a single word or phrase, helping calm thoughts and stress before expanding into more cosmic realms.
- Stress balls: Gripping a stress ball or holding a similar object can be a focal point for grounding oneself in the practice of cosmic-oriented meditation.
- Artwork: Using a space-themed photograph or painting as initial imagery can help focus the mind on cosmic forces and the vastness of the universe during this type of meditation. Any such artwork should be abstract enough that it does not force individual thoughts, and it should be of a sufficient size that the practitioner can lose themselves in the image.
Finding Your Cosmos
The cosmos is filled with energies and we are each one infinitesimal part of that universe. By practicing cosmic meditation, we can renew our connections to the universe and realize that our stresses, no matter how crucial they may seem at the moment, are really insignificant in the vastness of all things cosmic.
