Christian Online Anger Management Courses
From LoveToKnow Stress
Christian online anger management courses vary in approach. Some offer Bible-based classes in the form of studies, while others take a clinical approach with faith as a base.
When Anger is Okay
Is anger a sin or just a normal reaction? After all, when someone hurts us intentionally or unintentionally, it's easy to feel angry. And what about God? We see evidence in the Bible that he gets angry. For example, in Romans 1:18 we see, "God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who push the truth away...." (NLT).
As Christians it's easy to try and justify our angry outbursts by pointing a finger at God's anger. If you tend to do that, stop and take a moment to dig deeper into the subject so you can better compare your anger with God's. You might want to check out different Bible versus where outbursts of anger are listed with other sinful behaviors like quarreling, jealousy, and selfishness. God's anger is a “righteous anger.” We see an example of righteous anger when Jesus chases merchants and customers from the Temple, turning over the tables of the money changers as well as the seats of the people selling doves. He reminds the people that his house is to be a house of prayer. He even dares to call them thieves. This is because those involved were dishonest. The money changers exchanged Roman currency into the Temple shekel. The people had no choice, and the money changers split their profits with the priests. It was the same with the merchants selling doves. They charged much higher prices than what people would pay on the streets, and their doves received the priests' seal. It upset Jesus that these men made a profit off of the people's desire to worship God. His anger was an emotional reaction to unjust behavior.
When Anger Becomes a Problem
We are reminded in Scripture, "Don't sin by letting anger gain control over you. Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a mighty foothold to the Devil." (Eph. 4:26-27) When anger remains buried and unresolved it usually festers and grows into resentment, bitterness, and unforgiveness. This unresolved anger is destructive to the person harboring it and to the relationships around them. The reminder not to let anger gain control, and to not let the sun go down while still angry should prompt us to forgive. If we don't, there can be no forgiveness, and thus no peace of mind.
Unresolved anger doesn't just drive a destructive wedge into relationships here on earth. It also creates a gap between us and God. This is not his perfect plan, but the result of our refusal to deal with anger and the hidden issues tied to it. These issues can lead to things like:
- Physical problems
- Depression
- Nervous disorders
